A Mandatory Module is a module that a student must take on their chosen course. An Elective Module means a module chosen by a student from among the list given by the college, to complete in addition to the mandatory modules.

120 Credits are needed to achieve a QQI Major Award and QQI modules are 15 credits each. That means that completing 8 modules = 120 credits.

Minor QQI Awards are also commonly referred to as “component certificates”. These awards are single modules which can be completed and certificated individually. 8 Minor Awards are required to complete a QQI level 5 Major Award.

A number of courses might be related to your area of expertise. You can find essential and related courses at our Course Categories section. Some courses usually benefit all areas, such as Manual Handling, CV preparation courses, First Aid, Customer Service, and Safety and Health at Work.

GNC already has a number of Major awards prepared to be offered. We are currently awaiting for validation and will soon put them on our website. Subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on Social Media to be the first to know when that happens.

Courses can be certified by different awarding bodies. We offer QQI, PHECC, SOLAS and Glin National College courses. GNC courses are usually shorter and, while not a recognised qualification, a Glin National College certificate is issued on completion of the course to acknowledge your attendance. They are a valuable choice to upgrade your skills and CV.

GNC provides courses in three different methods: Classroom, Online, and Blended Learning. While we hold responsibility for delivering the same quality and aiming for the same learning outcomes in all our courses, there are some differences with regards to how they proceed. GNC’s newest Q.Q.I. level 5 Major Award is Professional Homecare Support Skills PG24740. This course is in a blended online format with a unique three-modular design style. Glin National College has developed and validated this program with Q.Q.I. specifically for the Homecare Sector.
